with Rick Kelm, Ripon HS (WI) Head Football Coach; 2005 & 2003 Wisconsin Class 4 State Champions, 2003 Wisconsin High School Coach of the Year
Special teams play has been a key to Ripon High Schools 38-2 record over the past three seasons. Coach Kelm believes that special teams must receive as much emphasis in practice and planning as offense and defense. Being aggressive and calculated make this special teams' package effective. Ten unique situations make up this special teams package. These areas include kick off, onside kick, kick off return, hands team, punt, punt fake, punt block, punt return, extra point/field goal and fake extra point/field goal. The punt game, onside package, punt block systems make it difficult for the opponent to prepare for Ripon. In all, 20% of all plays in a high school game are special team situations. This DVD is a complete presentation on special teams at the high school level and has been a crucial part of the consistent success at Ripon High School.
Trick Football Plays are special situation plays that are great momentum changers in a football game. These special plays use deception and misdirection instead of force. Trick plays are occasionally set up in the early parts of a game by a similar, more conventional play which looks similar to the trick play.
When the time is right at a key moment, the offense tries the trick play to confuse the defense momentarily and gain an advantage. Sometimes, an underdog uses them to gain an advantage, getting an extra score or an extra possession when they don't think they can defeat their opponent straight up. Sometimes, a superior team uses a trick play to break the will of a determined underdog. And sometimes, the trick play is the difference-maker in a closely contested game. Trick plays in football are sometimes referred to as gadget plays.
with Bill Shepard, former Rockford Christian HS (IL) Head Coach
This unique presentation unfolds a game plan for trick plays that can change the course of a football game. Trick plays, both offensively and on special teams, can change the momentum of the game, give an advantage over superior teams and does not take much practice time to cover. Coach Shepard shares several things to consider when looking at a plan for trick play offense. The plays he covers include 36 Reverse and 36 Reverse Pass, 36 Special, 148 Quick Pass, Wild Cowboy, Speed, Speed Pass and Yo-Yo. The 36 series is effective and each play can be disguised because all plays look similar. The same is true for Speed and Speed Pass. The Yo-Yo is a counter Option series of trick plays. The 148 Quick Pass gets the ball outside and to the corner. The Wild Cowboy play is a trick play to catch a pass in the flat in the corner of the end zone. Multiple game clips reinforce each of these plays and show how dangerous they are. Trick plays can make the difference in a big game. Use this DVD to add a few trick plays to your offensive arsenal.
with Bert Williams, Georgia Military College Head Coach, 2001 National Champions
If anyone knows how to beat the 3-5-3, it's Bert Williams. The 3-5-3 defense is extremely difficult to attack --- here are a few reasons:
Teams cannot utilize the weak side run without using motion - makes their offense predictable.
By having five linebackers/strong safeties on the field, your players are able to recover fast and make plays when offensive backs bounce outside.
It is a rule breaker - causes coaches to make adjustments not familiar to players.
It brings pressure from various places within the defense - keeps the offense guessing.
In this DVD, Coach Williams diagrams four plays to attack the 3-5-3. Blocking diagrams are provided for each position for the power strong, power weak, zone outside, and zone inside plays. He also covers two-back protection and one-back protection schemes in passing situations. Identifying a wide variety of blitzes are extremely important to defeating the 3-5-3 and Coach Williams diagrams keys to identifying these blitzes. He concludes by emphasizing the three keys to defeating the defense.
with Lew Johnston, Western Branch HS (VA) Head Coach, 5x District Champions, 4x Time District "Coach of the Year"
This unique, goal line, short yardage package comes from the Delaware Wing-T offense and puts the three biggest players on the team together in the backfield. Named "Gamecock" after Lou Holtz and Woody Hayes, this offense is a two tight end set with a full house backfield. This is a no huddle offense with the Wing-T offense as the base of this attack. This alignment is only used once the ball is inside the 3-yard line. Plays include the FB Belly, FB Wedge, HB Power, QB Keep and QB Keep Pass. Coach Johnston carefully diagrams each play on the white board. Game footage reveals the power of this offensive set when precious yards are needed. This could be the extra secret your offense needs for the upcoming season!
with Larry Coker, University of Miami Head Coach; 2001 National Champions!
Hurricane coach Larry Coker shares some of the Red Zone passing plays that have made the Hurricanes an unstoppable force inside the 20-yard line year after year. Coker details seven effective concepts (X Individual, Bunch, Arrow Slant, Post Corner China, F Under, Nakeds, and Fades) and the best options that are available to your team in different formations. Coker illustrates the plays on the board and then highlights many of the plays with game footage and narrates action sequences that provide additional instruction on the Red Zone passing plays.
